Ikeda’s Works Launched as eBooks in Spanish, French and Chinese
Spanish, French and Chinese language editions of works by Daisaku Ikeda were released recently in electronic format.
E-Book editions of Human Values in a Changing World: A Dialogue on the Social Role of Religion, a dialogue between sociologist Bryan R. Wilson (1926–2004) and Daisaku Ikeda, were released in Spanish (Los valores humanos en un mundo cambiante) and French (L’Avenir de l’humanité et le rôle de la religion).
Human Values in a Changing World is a record of exchanges on the religious response to the human condition between Mr. Ikeda and the late Dr. Wilson, reader emeritus in sociology at the University of Oxford and an internationally acclaimed sociologist of religion. They each recognize the importance of explaining and learning about their worldviews and share their observations on the origins of religious sentiments from contrasting approaches.
E-Book versions of A New Humanism, a compilation of Mr. Ikeda’s university lectures, was also released in French (Un nouvel humanism), and The Living Buddha, a biographical account of Shakyamuni, was released in simplified Chinese.
A New Humanism brings together Mr. Ikeda’s lectures and papers delivered between 1974 and 1994 at academic institutions worldwide—such as Harvard University, Peking University and the Institut de France—in which he addresses students, educators and thinkers exploring humanism from a Buddhist perspective.
The Living Buddha provides insight into the historic figure of Shakyamuni derived from Mr. Ikeda’s interpretive view as well as from the extensive sources he cites. Mr. Ikeda portrays Shakyamuni as not a mystic but a warm and engaged human being who was very much a product of his turbulent times. His insights reveal the struggles of Shakyamuni as not only accessible but those commonly felt by all humanity.
