Symposium on Daisaku Ikeda's Philosophy Held in Guangdong, China
On March 20, 2010, Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences and Jiaying University cosponsored a seminar titled "Humanism and Global Civilization in the 21st Century: Symposium on Daisaku Ikeda's Thought--2010" in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. Some 20 scholars from various universities and academic institutions gathered at the Meizhou Guest House to discuss the ideas espoused by Daisaku Ikeda, Soka University founder and SGI president, on humanistic education, science, peace and the concept of human revolution--an inner-directed positive reformation which results in the transformation of one's environment.
Speakers included Guangdong Academy Vice President Wang Jinglun, Jiaying University President Qiu Guofeng, and scholars from Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering, Sun Yat-sen University, Chinese Culture University of Taiwan, Xiamen University, Zhaoqing University and Shaoguan University. Over 30 papers were presented.
Mr. Ikeda sent a message to the symposium, which was read by SGI-Hong Kong General Director John Ng Chor Yuk. In a message read by Professor Wang, President Liang Guiquan of Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences paid tribute to the positive global influence of Mr. Ikeda's philosophy, and to his dedication to opening a universal path of happiness for humanity based on humanism and pacifism.
Papers presented included studies of Mr. Ikeda's views on peace and humanity and a comparative analysis of Mr. Ikeda's and John Dewey's educational philosophy.
