Toward a Humanistic Era —The Encounter between Gorbachev and Ikeda

When Mikhail Gorbachev became president of the Soviet Union, he called for the eradication of nuclear weapons and promoted dialogue over violence. Daisaku Ikeda welcomed his efforts for peace, and the two met in July 1990, for the first in a series of encounters. Their dialogue Moral Lessons of the Twentieth Century grew out of mutual respect and their shared goal of creating a humanistic era.
