Born in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China in 1940, Tu Weiming is a Chinese-born American philosopher. He has been a professor of Chinese history and philosophy and of Confucius studies at Harvard University since 1981. He is the former Director of the Harvard-Yenching Institute (1996–2008) and a distinguished research scholar at the Asia Center, Harvard University. His notable works include Confucian Thought (1985) and The Global Significance of Concrete Humanity (2010).
