Daisaku Ikeda is known in our country as an acclaimed Buddhist scholar, proponent of spiritual enlightenment, and humanist. His writings reflect his view on humanism, enlightenment and pacifism. He has been active in academic and educational exchange with Russia since 1974, working closely with institutions involved in Oriental studies here in St. Petersburg as well. A plethora of cultural, academic and educational exchanges between Russia and Japan are also being conducted under Dr. Ikeda's initiative."
